The author of Hebrews begins his letter with a thought that we risk taking for granted: "God has spoken; here is how God speaks." Because praying to God seems as normal to the human experience as tying your shoes, it never crosses our mind that our Creator is not OBLIGATED to communicate with us…and yet He CHOOSES to. I mean, who are we that God, who spoke Neptune into existence, speaks to us. But at creation God spoke and everything that exists came to be; Later, He spoke and the first email arrived in the 10 Commandments; on that same level of authority He spoke through Moses and Joshua and then throughout the Old Testament, all the way to Malachi in 435AD. These men along with others such as Isaiah, Habakkuk and others were PROPHETS who observed the events of the day and then SPOKE with God’s original Genesis 1 authority, "thus says the Lord." And then all of these words of God were delivered to humanity through the works of these prophets and angels (2:2). And the people knew, if you followed God's word, blessing would follow; if you abandoned it, punishment.
