Who Cares?

One of the most stunning and powerful images of God's care for us is found in Isaiah 40:31. When we are tired, weary God comes to us in power and grace. The Psalmist prays for "strength of soul". Here God supplies the vitality to overcome our weakness. The Israel to whom Isaiah preached was tired of the long exile from their homeland. There were running short of hope. What was God's plan? Would they ever get back home to resume their lives again? Isaiah says their exile must become a time of waiting on the Lord. God, the creator, also cares for them. He can make wings row where there were none before. Faith is not the energy of youth but the conviction that God is able to keep them and fulfill Hiss promises. With the wings of faith, we are not left to stumble and fall through life but we find the strength to run, to soar. It is interesting to watch eagles soar on the wind currents as they do here in Kodiak. Faith is like that. Eagles can't always soar effortlessly. They must wait for the right wind currents. Sometimes in the midst of struggles, it seems hard to exercise faith, but if we wait-yet we know, if we wait, God's spirit comes to lift us.
