Peter tells us to anticipate fiery trials, to rejoice in them, to glory in them, and to look beyond them to see the fate of the wicked. Our tormentors are set for a fate so bad and so everlasting, that they desperately need to receive Christ before it is too late. They deserve our pity, not our rage. The goal, in other words, is to keep our wits about us and keep our eyes on Christ and His purposes. There is no better time than a fiery trial to show off Christ to our enemies.
