Having humbled himself and died for us, Jesus is qualified to rule. Jesus' supremacy over angels was established in the first chapter. This is a proof of his excellence over the heavenly beings. However, Jesus is also more excellent than humanity. All of us are called to exercise dominion over the earth. This same mandate is picked up by Christ too. However, insofar as he died for his us, his people, and tasted death for us he is much more qualified to lead us by ruling over us. Being the firstborn, Jesus is the first to step into full and complete rule over the creation. We also will soon follow him, albeit, in subordination to him but over the angels. May we be happy and secure in Christ's care for us. His rule covers the entire globe. Many times we do not act as if our Lord has the final say, yielding to foolishness or embracing fear and pessimism. Such behaviors are unnecessary and are temptations which destabilize us and steal our joy. We are free to be happy in him, let us move forward in this freedom. May we be happy and fulfilled in Christ's atoning death for us. He died on our behalf that we might have life. Because of his death he now rules and reigns. His suffering and vicarious atonement qualifies him for ultimate rule. Again, he covers us in spiritual and physical care. We need not worry or fear God's wrath. It has already been satisfied.
