RESPONSIVE MEDIA CENTERS & PLAYERS

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – FEATURE ACTIVATION!

The Media Centers and Players update has been released and is now available within your Studio. We hope that this upgrade will be a blessing to your Ministry and your guests as we work to make your media as cross-platform accessible as possible!

PLEASE NOTE: If you have an original Media Center or Playlist Player embedded within your site, you will need to re-copy the embed code from your Studio and re-paste it into your web site (replace the code that is currently there).  This will ensure that things will display and respond properly!  Please let us know if you need any assistance.

1. ACTIVATION WITHIN YOUR STUDIO

All new accounts, created since its release (Dec 17, 2015), will utilize this new version by default. However, our existing client Studios will need to manually activate the new Media Centers and Players within their Studio > My Account (upper right) > Studio Settings page.

You will want to activate ASAP as any new features will only be applied to the latest release. Please let us know if you need any assistance with the transition.

  • If you currently link to a full page Media Center or a Playlist Player, you should be good to go.  Just make sure the Look/Theme is how you want it to be.

  • If you currently have a Media Center or Playlist Player embedded directly into your site, you will need to replace the embed code (re-copy & paste the embed code from your Studio > Media Center page, into your web site’s HTML/SOURCE code).
2. ACCESSING AND EMBEDDING MEDIA CENTERS

Watch this video on setting up and providing access to your Media Center:

If you currently have Media Center embedded within your Site (compact or full) you will need to use new embed code (replace what you currently have) so that it is at the proper size for your page, and it will be fully responsive when your page is displayed within a mobile device (smaller screens).

NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you provide a direct link that opens your Media Center its own Window or Tab when clicked.  Even if you have the Media Center’s iFrame actually embedded within your site, it is still a good idea to provide this external link option (perhaps a simple link / button below the embedded Media Center).

Reason: Some websites and devices will handle the iFrame embed code differently and this may produce less favorable results for certain viewers.  For example to avoid scrolling within the embedded iFrame be sure to allow for a lot of extra space (iFrame height) to accommodate the taller Media Center when it is collapsed into one long column (a narrow screen makes it longer).

If you currently link to a full page Media Center in its own page, just make sure the “Look/Theme” is where you want it to be.  The link will simply load in the new Media Center once activated within your Studio.

3. LOOK & THEME OF YOUR MEDIA CENTERS

You will also want to make sure your Theme/appearance is how you want it to look. Existing graphics may not fit properly within the new Media Center. Take a look, make the necessary modifications so that it is to your liking… and enjoy!!!

4. OPTIMAL MEDIA RESOLUTION FOR YOUR MEDIA CENTERS

The Player within the Media Center is designed to scale larger if the viewer’s screen resolution accommodates. To optimize your Artwork and video we suggest you go with 854×480.

VIDEO

– If your original source video is in an HD / Widescreen format, for best results go with 854×480 within your transcoding profile template. This will prevent additional up-scaling by the player. However, video at 640×360 should scale up nicely and look good also. (Transcoding Profile Template: http://sermon.net/for-the-ministry/studio-tutorials/transcoding-profile-template/)

ARTWORK

– Produce a larger sized Artwork (854×480) to fill the Player so that it looks nice. Artwork will appear within the Player at its selected/cropped size. It will not scale stretch to accommodate a larger container, however it will scale down for smaller screens. (Artwork Manager: http://sndemo.sermon.net/Tutorials/tutorials/20003018)

5. RE-EMBEDDING YOUR PLAYLIST PLAYERS

To make sure your embedded Playlist Player(s) display and respond properly, please re-embed their iFrame embed code from your Studio, into your web site’s HTML/SOURCE code.  NOTE: You may want to increase the Player’s > Size and Layout > Playlist Height (for example, to 600) in order to properly display your list of Episodes below the player.  Please let us know if you need any assistance!
