Going back is always the easiest thing to do in difficult times. When Moses did not show up when they expected, they persuaded by democratic vote to make a golden calf. It was easier for them to go back to the familiar than wait on God’s man. The only problem with the golden calf was that it was the worship of an unrepentant heart. Too easy to slip into the past, when God is wanting to give us a future.
