In Isaiah 9:1-7 we learn that Jesus shatters self reliance in salvation. Isaiah's message to Ahaz confronts reliance on man made plans. The "weakness" of trusting in a yet to be born child drives home the point: God is our only hope. Jesus, the Messiah, is the fulfillment of this reality.
