*Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.* (Colossians 3:1, 2 NASB) The change from *seek* in verse 1 to *set your minds* in verse 2 emphasizes that there is a mental reorientation which a new life in Christ necessitates. As Christians, we must devote our whole mental activity not simply an occasional thought to higher things. Philippians 4:8 (MSG) reads, *You would do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly, things to praise, not things to curse.* Albert Barnes sums it up in his Bible commentary, *Live under the correct impression.* This offers us a choice: to live under the correct impression or not to live under the correct impression. It implies there is a possible means of escaping from incorrect impressions. Impressions are the act of someone imprinting upon someone or something else. Think of all the people in your life who have left an impression, correct or otherwise. When someone leaves an impression he or she has imprinted upon us by guiding us a certain way, or imparting something through influence or teaching. To live *under* implies a hierarchy necessitating a proper response to authority of the one doing the imprinting. If we are to be imprinted, we have to be soft enough to be *printed* upon… willing…
