The church can be like these disciples and have very limited understanding of this new commandment. If we don’t understand what the “love one another” means for us and what the “as I have loved you” means for us, we will not obey this new and great commandment. We will be like the Pharisees who believed they were obeying the great commandment in the law. They said they loved God with all their heart. The fact that they did not obey the second part of the great command revealed they were liars. We can profess we believe on the name of His son Jesus Christ.
