I. The Obligation of Prayer (v 1) A. The Intercessor's Four Tracks 1. Entreaties (specific need) 2. Prayers (unspoken etc.) 3. Petitions 4. Thanksgivings (gratefullness) B. Philippians 4:6 C. The believer is called to have a comprehensive intercessory prayer life. This type of intercession takes time, effort, focus, and thought and intensity. II. The Objects of Prayer (vs 2-7) A. See 1 Samuel 12:23 B. The intercessor should pray for salavation and well-being of all people. We should never neglect to pray for our civil leaders in general and specifically for their salvation. This not only pleases God but will lead to Christian influence and consideration in governmental and social affairs. III. The Occupation of Prayer (v 8) A. See James 5:16b B. All Christians are commanded to pray, the responsibility of leading public prayer in worship is reserved for males in the church. C. However, all believers must have pure hearts, consciences and actions in order to pray effectively.
